Green In France

The color GREEN in French Country decorating runs the range of light pastel green to mossy woodland green to bright green velvet and satin. The lighter and muted pastels and woodland greens work best on walls and furniture.

French Empire Blue

The color BLUE in French Country style ranges from baby blue to bright blue to cornflower blue. Paint walls lighter shades of blue, and use red and white accents in formal areas like living rooms and dining rooms. Blue in the kitchen is better contained to painted trim and accents, although light blue and white on walls or cabinets works well with ginghams and small floral accents on towels, chair cushions, curtains, napkins and placemats.

Old World Interiors

French Provence reproductions of rustic furniture often comprise a few elements: Hand carved adornments, raw wood and curved panels. A classic armoire was seen in almost every French home for storage of bedding or bath linens. Rustic, low sheen or dull waxed finish on tables was common whether it is round or rectangle. Accent chairs would be designed with carved and curved fine points. Provincial style chairs featured rush seats or had vertical slats or ladder-back in design. The French style wouldn’t be complete without brick, stone or wooden plank flooring.
